A Ritual for Holistic Health & Wellbeing
Self care is an important aspect of looking after yourself and ensuring you are able to operate at your best. It is about whole-of-self wellness. It can be both preventative and used to treat various issues (physical, mental and emotional) as they arise. It helps to deepen our self-awareness and allows us to respond to our needs on a daily/weekly/seasonally basis.
Through my work I have come to distinguish six areas where we can think about self-care and the things we do to look after ourself to help bring about better holistic health and wellness outcomes. These six areas are informed by the art of Ayurveda - the "life science" of yoga and my work with many individuals and community groups including new mothers, activists and service providers.
Incorporating self-care rituals into your life might feel a little self-indulgent at first but really, it is just a commitment to yourself to prioritise the most important person in your life... YOU!
